Monthly Musings

Some heartfelt inspiration for our readers...

 Musings on PATIENCE

Today's world is full-on - hurry, hurry, hurry - do more, get more, have more - driven by urgency.

To move beyond the sense of urgency one must learn to integrate patience.

And what is patience?

Patience is one of the least understood but most important spiritual qualities.

Patience is about being without expectation. It is the purification of desire, and moving beyond your attachments to outcomes."

~ Michael King

Ponderings on Tropho-restoration and Patience from Naturopath, Kim Minos

Tropho-restoration is a principle rarely considered in medicine.

It comes from the Greek Trophe, to feed, to nourish; but it is a very important and a natural part of Herbal medicine and Naturopathic medicine. It basically means the nourishing and gentle restoration of an organ or a bodily system and by its very nature, that process is going to be gradual and slow.

When an organ system has degenerated and created an illness, it has usually occurred over a significant period of time, it may be months, years or decades. It’s going to take time to clean and heal the environment, release fears, change lifestyle habits, and provide adequate nutrition so regeneration, cell replication, and repair can take place, building healthier organs and systems within the patient. Healing processes by their very nature can be slow and gradual, they depend on the inherent vitality within the person, the circumstances the person has experienced, their access to correct nutrition and their ability to love what has previously been unlovable.

None of these things can be rushed.

To place any expectation on the individual in any way is not going to be a healing experience for them.

Patience is the absence of expectation.

This absence of expectation is a far more loving space to be coming from for the patient going through their healing journey and a more loving space to be in for oneself.

And as a wise teacher has often said, the natural outcome of Patience will always be Love.

Kim has worked with plants and herbs all of his life. He has been a qualified Naturopath and Herbalist for the past 27 years. He loves the fundamental Principles of Naturopathy, their underlying foundations are alchemical in nature and it is in working with patients and bringing these principles with the  Healing Power of Nature which brings him the greatest joy.

He has lectured for many years in botany, Manufacturing, Herbal medicine, Clinical Practice and Naturopathic Philosophy. He conducts Herbal Medicine workshops and has worked in collaboration with hospitals to better understand how probiotics and prebiotics can be used in the hospital system to improve patient outcomes. “ I love finding ways to create bridges between Western and Complementary medicine.”

Welcome to our MYTH BUSTERS section where we explore commonly held beliefs and habitual thought, and present other perspectives and ponder points.

We hope you enjoy pondering on the topic of PATIENCE this month, gain some insights,  bust some myths around patience, and update your internal database

Myth: Impatience is a sign of someone who is motivated and self-determining to be the best that they can be.

Reality: Impatience can be seen as a lack of acceptance of where one is truly at, and therefore strives to be somewhere they are not without fully embracing the journey that it takes to get there.

This can be a great source of inner disharmony which may be experienced as struggle, suffering, inner conflict, frustration, and irritation. It’s essentially trying to get away from yourself and be somewhere you are not, whether this is personally, professionally, or spiritually.

We cannot get to our destination without first fully accepting and being honest with ourselves about where we are at. A map is useless if you don’t know where you are to begin with. The other key is understanding that the process that you undergo to get to where you want to be is the part that you as a soul is actually seeking. This is because it’s through the embracing and undertaking of the process that you grow, discover more of yourself, and develop certain skills and abilities. When you do get to the place of where you once wanted to be (although it’s ever-evolving), there’s a deep satisfaction that comes from knowing that you worked for it. Being given what you want without undergoing the process to get there, can leave you feeling empty and dissatisfied because you’ve missed out on the real gift – which was the learning.

Mel works as a qualified Naturopath (BHSc), Mentor and Coach (Dip.) and Meditation Facilitator. She has a special interest in stress, anxiety, and gut health. She deeply appreciates and applies in her practice her understanding of the Polyvagal Theory by Dr Stephen Porges, which revolutionized the way we view stress, our fear response, and emotional regulation.

Mel combines traditional principles of healing with modern research. For the sake of our own health and wellbeing, and that of the planet, she hopes and encourages others to reconnect with the planet and all the kingdoms of nature from a space of deep reverence and respect for its sacredness, and understanding our interconnectedness.

Who We Are and What We Do

If you have not yet studied with us, you may not already know that the Global Coaching Academy has been creating and delivering heart-based training programmes since 2004.

We began as a very small Registered Training Organisation in Perth offering a Certificate of Mentoring and Coaching. This was in response to people who were looking for a meaningful course and qualification that wasn't all about 'rah rah' and money making, rather about wanting to make a difference and support others to become the best versions of themselves. 17 years later, GCA is delivering a Diploma of Mentoring, Coaching and Interpersonal Facilitation, as a fully internationally recognised ICF accredited coach training program to participants in United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, Asia and New Zealand.
